The Frampton Fun Ride Sunday 30th March 2008
This event took place even the weather was horrendous the day before. It
did cause problems on the morning of the event, when we did need to change
the parking arrangements. There was a discussion on canceling the event
but due to the work commitment that had been carried out for the two weeks
previous by Pip Birch and Paul Malpass, it was decided that the event
would go ahead.
Lucky enough by kind permission of the land owner, Mr Rollo Clifford, we
were able to change parking to the hard standing area at the Gravel Pits
(Even though the toilets had been deposited at the original site) but the
bushes came in handy.
The morning started with a few changes but competitors managed to find
their way to the new parking. The start had been changed but the route
was basically the same. Although numbers were down on last year it was
still a profitable event.
The weather held up and Hilary Smith still managed to cook el fresco with
wonderful burgers, hot dogs , tea, coffee and cold drinks and even
offering veggie burgers, (she thinks of everybody. ) She was rewarded at
the end of the day with a nice cold tin of Lager and we would like to
thank her for all her hard work and preparation for the day. Also, we
must mention the Merrett family for the use of their BBQ and their
equipment that was used during the day. Dave Merrett was also kind enough
to stand as marshal throughout the day.
We are grateful for all the helpers on the day, who had given up their
Sunday to help us. We must mention that Suzie Tucker, even though
suffering with blood shot eyes and a tremendous hang over from Jamie
McGuires 18th surprise party at the Salutation, she was still there as
promised on the day.
Peter Hillard even missed his Sunday Roast with some important guest’s but
had made his commitment to help and stood by it.
The day was ended by thanking people that had helped during the day with a
free burger and either a glass of wind or a beer and Sue was rewarded by a
trip in Dave Merretts gaiter with the driver being his daughter Polly
behind the wheel and they sped of around the gravel pits to the deepest
flood and managed to soak both to their under pants and returned to give
everybody a great laugh at the sight of them both soaked. What a pity
Godfrey wasn’t on hand!!!
As mentioned numbers where down on last years event but still managed to
make enough profit to be able to buy a new horse for the huntsman.
On occasions like this we rely on as much support as possible and would
appreciate any volunteers to help us with future events. If you are
interested or have any ideas to help the Berkeley Hunt Supporters raise
funds then please do not hesitate to contact us as

Picture by kind permission of Cotswold Photography. Jamie McGuire on her new horse Lakestreet Tweed, jumping the final jump of the Ledbury Inter Hunt Golden button steeplechase on New Years Eve morning.
The Berkeley Hunt had a great team consisting of Nelson Rowe, Victoria Vatcher, Jamie McGuire and Sarah Meredith. The course was 3 miles long with 23 very big fences to negotiate, bearing in mind that all 7 teams 28 individual riders set off from the start at the same time!!! Carnage.
Nelson was 2nd individually and Jamie was 6th with the team getting a very respectable 2nd place just behind the Cotswold Hunt.
A very well done to the team, especially well done to Jamie as this was her first event on tweed, and up until 7am New Years day Jamie was just going to be a spectator!!
A day out with The Berkeley.
I had a memorable day out with Rolo as field master on the 5th December with a fabulous point from Slim Bridge to Sharpness Docks. Your huntsman had a bump that day and I took a photograph as I was amazed at how depressed the hounds looked after seeing their huntsman on the floor. I hope he has now recovered to re- take the horn, although I would like to congratulate your Whip for a Fantastic Day. Many thanks for a memorable day out, a member of Llangeinor Hunt. Please see photograph above I really look forward to joining you all again soon as you were all so welcoming.

Chris Easton, one of the Berkeley Hunt's Supporters Club's most popular members, has had to give up his position as secretary to the club. Chris has been a loyal and hard working member for of some seven years but, due to overwhelming work and family commitments, he felt it right to leave at the AGM held last week. At a surprise presentation ceremony held before the AGM at the Salutation Inn, Chris was given a decanter and personalized glasses by Supporter’s Club chairman Mr. Reg Hopkins. The ceremony was also attended by the Masters and Committee members both past and present.
During the recent foot and mouth problems hounds were joined on exercise by a field of over 50 riders mounted on bikes. Led by Henry Berkeley, some ten miles were covered with a much welcome break for refreshments at Rockhampton equestrian centre, courtesy of Clive and Lynne. The ride finished at the Kennels, where a breakfast had been cooked by Mrs. Worcester and her team. So popular was the event it was repeated every week until the hounds were able to hunt as normal.
